Previously shown during Photo Month in Paris, at Galerie du Jour Agnès b., this exhibition entitled “city and modernity, young girl in the city” was also exhibited at Institut Mode Méditerranée to celebrate the opening of the new Agnès b. shop in Marseille.
We asked photographers from different countries, generations and sensibilities to give their vision of young girl in the modern city. Historically, emancipation of women coincided with the development of avant-garde arts and urban utopias. While cities tend to become mankind’s sole living environment we may wonder what the representation of the young girl in an urban surrounding can be, what her social functions are and the new meaning of traditional symbolism of femininity in modern cities stands for.
