The eternal youth of David Seidner
In his work David Seidner proclaims
loud and clear a visceral idealism,
strangely coincident with the America
of the end of the 50’s he
was born in. The ethereal beauty
of the bodies and faces he celebrates
is freed from all kind of temporality,
a stamp – for the one who
can grasp it – of a subtle
work wherein the technical nature
of the shot is disappearing behind
the fascinating authenticity of
the subjects.
Impressed by a classicism of no
artistic movement, Seidner seeks
for perfection, a form of hedonism
crossing time with the Greek Antiquity
kouros, with Michelangelo’s
David or Ingres’ portraits,
deprived of the mannerism or the
poses that influence rules and styles.
No one ever can tell if David Seidner,
who died too soon at the age of
42, leaving an unaccomplished work,
has ever reached his vision of a
perfect mankind, this quest for
the fountain of youth or that comeback
to Eden.
